When Irish Eyes Are Smiling in 1912, and perhaps other works over the years as well. It has been said that this particular barroom or saloon, located in the Triangle Hotel in Richmond Hill at the lower end of Long Island, New York, may also be the inspiration for his mock ballad
Saloon just after the onset of prohibition. Note how narrow the table is, as well as the high unpadded seat backs. This arrangment was obviously not designed with eating in mind.
