Piano Rag

Loosely, a genre of syncopated music based on march form that usually consists of three or four repeated distinct sixteen measure sections in both tonic and subdominant keys in the sectional form of A A B B A C C D D or a variation thereof. Piano rags are instrumentals and with scant exceptions have no lyric content. Some are designated as two steps or syncopated novelties, and even some intermezzos meet the criteria for piano rag. Not all piano rags are "classic rags."
