Blu-Ray

The Sony version of a High Definition Digital Versatile Disc, a digital storage medium the size of a compact disc that can be recorded onto one time with 24 bit audio, high definition video or data, such as MP3 files. These units require a Sony Blu-Ray laser, unlike the red laser for standard CD and DVD discs, and are still a new consumer item, so prices are high and recorders are scant. Blu-Ray DVDs support high-definition video resolutions of the 1024p HDTV standard as well as mutliple channels of high-resolution 24 bit sound of up to 7.1 channels.
