Lincoln Highway
Words by U.S. Roll [Unknown] and Music by Harry J. Lincoln
A Section: Morning is dawning across a great highway,
Sunbeams are waiting to hearald forth the day.
Bird notes in voices clear tell us day is near,
Bringing a stream of life across the great highway.
Tourists are winding to California's shore,
Meeting on prairie the schooner o'er and o'er.
Ranchman on pony trim, homesteader following him,
All on the great highway three thousand miles and more.
B Section: The snow-capped mountains cleave the sky,
Mid flashing waterfalls, the red-winged blackbirds call.
Where cypress pine and cedar forest are spread,
Flies triumphantly the eagle overhead.
Deep valleys with their waving grain,
And here the overflow of orchards all a-glow.
Blue vineyards with their grapes, wide prairie,
With corn on this golden road when comes the glorious morn.
Trio 1: Lincoln Brave! Lincoln True!
We've named this great highway for you!
Once Your heart played its part,
In flag of red and white and blue.
Calm in faith, strong in love,
Your hand upon our nation lay;
Lincoln Brave! Lincoln True!
We've named this great highway for you!
Interlude
Trio 2: Hunble home, hunble friends.
And humble every task he knew.
Led by fame forth he came,
Unto the work he had to do.
One in heart, one in mind,
And one in spirit now we say,
Lincoln Brave! Lincoln True!
Our country bears your name for aye.
Interlude
Trio 3: Clothes all packed, nothing new,
For Lincoln highway trip for you.
Happy he who is free,
To do what he will never rue.
Silver East, Golden West,
Three thousand miles from shore to shore.
Greetings here, there adieu,
On Lincoln Highway trip with you!
